COMET C/2018 KJ_3 (LEMMON)
An apparently asteroidal object (designated 2018 KJ3 by the Minor Planet
Center upon discovery in May) that was discovered with the Mount Lemmon
Survey 1.5-m reflector on images taken by H. Groeller and G. J. Leonard on
May 17 (discovery observations tabulated below) has been found to show
cometary appearance in four 120-s r-band images taken by K. J. Meech and J.
Kleyna (and reported by M. Micheli, Kleyna, Meech, and J. Keane) with the
3.6-m Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope on Aug. 7.33 UT; Micheli notes that there
is a broad tail about 5" long to the east and an extended central condensation
of mag 18.8-19.4 whose image shows a full-width-at-half-maximum of about 1".0
in 0".6 seeing.

G. V. Williams (from 130 observations spanning May 17-Aug. 7; mean residual
0".4), and an ephemeris appear on MPEC 2018-P84.
