RECOVERY OF COMET P/2011 U2 (BRESSI)
S. Nakano, Central Bureau, has identified apparently asteroidal recovery
observations of this comet (cf. IAUC 9236) from CCD images obtained with the
Pan-STARRS1 1.8-m Ritchey-Chretien reflector at Haleakala, Hawaii (recovery
observations tabulated below, which appeared on MPECs 2020-M114 and 2020-P19.
The comet had not been seen in more than four years.

The residuals of the recovery observations above were -5" in R.A. and -2" in
Decl. from the prediction on NK 3378 and in the ICQ's Comet Handbooks for
2018, 2019, and 2020; the indicated correction to the time of perihelion is
Delta(T) = +0.016 day. The following linked orbital elements by Nakano are
from 180 observations spanning 2011-2020 (mean residual 0".46). The comet
passed 0.97 AU from Jupiter on 2020 Feb. 5 UT.

The following 20-day ephemeris by the undersigned from the above orbital
elements runs through the forthcoming perihelion passage and uses photometric
power-law parameters H = 9.0 and 2.5n = 10 for the magnitudes; the reported
magnitudes near aphelion in 2015 and 2016 are 1-2 mag fainter than these
parameters suggest.
