The Minor Planet Electronic Circulars contain information on unusual
minor planets, routine data on comets and natural satellites,
and occasional editorial announcements. They are published
on behalf of Division F of the International Astronomical Union by the
Minor Planet Center, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory,
                          Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A.

                                Editorial Notice

The IAU WGSBN is pleased to announce that the long-planned move of the
Name Submission/Voting site from the MPC server to the WSGBN website has now
been scheduled. The WGSBN thanks the Minor Planet Center for hosting the site
in the past, particularly during the last four years.

The timeline for the move is as follows: on May 20, the current site will
be shutdown (the existing links on the MPC site will be repointed to static
pages informing users that the site is being transferred); and on May 22, the
new site will be brought on-line (the links on the MPC site will be repointed
to the corresponding links on the WGSBN site). If you have the current links
bookmarked, please be sure to update them as soon as possible after May 22.
The MPC will not maintain the redirects beyond the end of 2024.

Between May 20 and 22, the data from the current DB will be downloaded,
transferred to the WGSBN server, converted for use by the new DB, then
uploaded into the new DB. Various consistency checks will then be performed,
to ensure that no data is lost during the transfer and that the data was
convered correctly.

During the period May 6 to 20, WG members and discoverers can test out the
new site, reporting any problems using the bug-reporting facilities on the new
site. This gives two weeks to fix any issues before the new site goes live.
Note that any data input into the new system before May 20 will be deleted,
so using Lorem ipsum text as citation text is fine, as is changing discoverer
names to the names of cartoon characters. The main point of the test period
is that pages function as intended, that links go the correct pages and that
information entered into system is correctly recorded.

Usernames for the new site for discoverers and WGSBN members are unchanged
from the old site, but new passwords have been assigned. If you are willing
to test out the new site, please send an email to secretary at wgsbn-iau.org,
stating the username that you used on the current system. If accepted as
a tester, your password will be sent to you.
